Eagle's Rest Ranch's Research Based
Therapeutic Methods
Eagle’s Rest Ranch utilizes a number of research-based therapies in treating its young women. Our treatment team carefully crafts an individual treatment plan for each of our young women depending on their unique struggles. Our treatment team consists of our clinical director, therapists, program director, and educational director. This holistic approach combines therapy with education and programming, ensuring that the combination creates a positive and lasting result.
DBT
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy. It teaches our young women to live in the moment, regulate their emotions, cope in healthy ways, and improve their relationship with others. It is often used in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TB-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents suffering from early trauma. TF-CBT has shown great results in resolving a wide range of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with complex traumatic experiences.
Being placed in a treatment center can be very traumatic and that trauma may delay a young woman’s ability to get to work on her underlying issues. As a result, in the initial stages of treatment we purposely address and treat this placement trauma so that a young woman can more quickly get to work on the issues that brought her into the program in the first place.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that helps our young women heal from the emotional distress of early childhood trauma. It is widely accepted that severe emotional trauma requires a long time to heal. EMDR has proven to give the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.
Eagle’s Rest Ranch adheres to the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EGALA) program. Many of the great benefits of equine therapy are due to the nature of the animals our young women interact with. Horses are non-judgemental, have no preconceived motives, and mirror the attitudes of the humans whom they’re working with. This opportunity gives our young women a chance to look within themselves as they see their own behaviors manifested in the horse. They then are able to effectively identify and correct their tendencies to engage in self-defeating and negative thoughts and actions.
While in the program, each young woman will participate in the following weekly therapy sessions.
Individual Therapy
Each of our young women are assigned a therapist with whom they have individual therapy at least once per week. Our therapists are licensed mental health clinicians who provide a supportive, yet challenging, environment where our young women are able to process their emotions and heal. Each of our therapists are trained on our unique therapeutic modalities to best support healing.
Family Therapy
Family therapy is critical to ensuring long-term success for our young woman and their families. Each young woman will participate in weekly family therapy either via video calls or, when possible, in person. These sessions are designed to, among other things, address unhealthy family dynamics and lay the ground work for life-long family relationships.
Equine Therapy
Equine therapy occurs on a weekly basis in small groups under the direction of our Equine Specialist. Equine therapy is a progressive program beginning with learning the basics of horses and, as a young woman progresses, being able to control a horse by being able to control her own thoughts and emotions.
Group Therapy
Eagle's Rest Ranch operates at least four group therapy sessions each week to address issues that our young women may be struggling with and to provide additional opportunities for healing. The four group areas are as follows:
SMART Recovery
SMART Recovery is a specific group therapy to help those young women we work with who struggle with addiction or addiction-type behaviors.
Emotional Resillience
This therapy group is designed to teach our young women how to develop high levels of emotional resilience so they are better able to cope with the difficulties they have faced and will face throughout their lives.
DBT
DBT is taught and utilized both individually and in groups. In this group, our young women have the opportunity to practice the skills they are learning and support others in doing the same.
Positive Peer Culture
Positive Peer Culture (PPC) is a system that helps teach our young women to communicate honestly on very difficult issues with care and concern for others. Families learn this method of interacting as well and it is practiced in family therapy sessions.
Chase Morgan - Program Director
Chase was very fortunate to start in this industry as a struggling 17 year old kid looking for a mentor and something to be passionate about. Wilderness therapy was Chase’s first stop in this industry and was truly a transcendental experience for him. Chase has an enormous love for this line of work and the power that it has in creating change in everyone involved. Chase’s biggest belief is the power a mentor, strong, healthy relationships, and accountability can have on anyone, especially youth. Taking a very relational approach to his work, Chase has always been very relatable to the students he works with. Being able to understand and relate to a vast variety of the same struggles as a lot of the students he works with has been able to help him continue to grow, learn, and teach. Chase believes that with great rapport and trust, he can use his experience to continue to coach and train new staff, and has the ability to find those staff with the passion for this industry, and help them grow. His love and passion can be felt the moment you talk with Chase about this industry and he passes that on to others he works with. In his spare time you will find Chase cheering for the Eagles, Yankees, and Mavericks, hanging out with his brother, learning more about Eastern Psychology, and continuing to grow and learn.
Eagle’s Rest Ranch is currently being constructed and is not admitting new clients yet. After the completion of all the appropriate licenses from the state of Utah, we’ll be fully operational.
